James E. Ryan
Harvard Graduate School of Education
Jim Ryan is the Dean of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. During his five year tenure as Dean he has advanced a comprehensive strategy to foster diversity and inclusion in our school, both in terms of hiring staff and faculty that represent the full diversity of America, and also in terms of fostering a reorientation of our core business to better prepare graduate students to lead education for more inclusion. He has been very successful in implementing this strategy. His term as Dean ends in June, when he will become the next President of the University of Virginia. Recognizing him for his success at Harvard will send a powerful signal to other Deans of Schools of Education, and other University leaders, which would have a positive and significant multiplier effect in the sector.
