At BCBSMA, our work to create a diverse and inclusive culture that welcomes the unique experiences of every associate starts at the top and permeates through every level of the company. Our associate driven efforts are spearheaded by our eight Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) that have more than 1400 members and lead programs throughout the year that support cultural competency.

The ERGs regularly host forums (such as our Black History Month Black Girls Rock event that highlighted black female healthcare leaders) to engage and enlighten associates on unique perspectives. We demonstrate the same commitment to our communities with initiatives such as “Light it up at Blue,” an autism awareness campaign, and Flags for Vets, commemorating our veterans at Bourne National Cemetery.

Our D&I team creates even more opportunities for associates to expand and share their perspectives, with initiatives such as the Diversity Dialogues series – a forum for internal and external participants on a variety of topics including Being Out in the Workplace, and most recently, on Unconscious Bias that earned a GK10 equity driving initiative award from Get Konnected! We’ve also launched an innovative Talent Ambassador program that enables our employees to serve as brand ambassadors.

Our efforts to drive inclusion haven’t gone unnoticed, with recent accolades from the Boston Bar Association on a partnership between our Latino ERG and legal team, a recognition as one of Mogul’s Top 100 Innovators in D&I in 2018, and a 100% rating from the Human Rights Campaign on our LGBTQ workplace practices for the third year.
