PASSION:

Ultimate Peace offers youth from different backgrounds in the Middle East a chance to build friendships by playing ultimate frisbee. Now it its 10th year, UP programs convey five principles: mutual respect, friendship, non-violence, integrity and fun.

IMPACT:

As a champion ultimate player and a USA Ultimate board member, Steve has leveraged his passion for the sport and the concept of self-officiating to make a positive impact on developing youth. Steve traveled to Israel with Ultimate Peace to bring together children of different backgrounds through sport who would not normally ally. Additionally, Steve is advocating for the sport to be brought to underserved youth populations in Boston.

The sport of Ultimate frisbee celebrated its 50th anniversary this year, and as a board member of USAU, Steve applies his expertise in marketing and communication strategies to ensure the founding principal of “spirit of the game” is recognized and awareness is created across the US. “Ultimate relies upon a spirit of sportsmanship that places the responsibility for fair play on the player. Highly competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expense of mutual respect among competitors, adherence to the agreed upon rules, or the basic joy of play.”

Steve takes these principles from ultimate into the workplace as a fair and respectful, yet highly competitive leader.
