Mentor Award Finalist
As part of the Academic Affairs leadership team, John Sims is responsible for coordinating all external relations activity from the Office of the Provost/Academic Affairs/Dean’s Council including Deans’ Advisory Councils, alumni and corporate relations, and he serves as a liaison with other units throughout Bentley University.
Words are insufficient to describe John’s involvement with mentoring. He is a tireless advocate for women and diverse candidates in every realm of business, education and non-profit sectors. He is a true relationship builder and has served as motivator, supporter, advisor and advocate for literally hundreds of women and diverse candidates in their efforts to climb the corporate ladder, find meaningful non-profit work, or progress in the realm of higher education.
John founded the Leadership Committee of the Women of the Harvard Club, a group of high-level professional women that work to engage and promote women from all sectors of the Boston Community. John’s network is enormous, however each and every person in it is a truly personal connection for him. He listens, advocates, and advises with great personal investment in terms of time and emotion. Each person he mentors, and there are MANY, feels the sincerity of his desire to help and promote on their behalf. His generosity is limitless, often sacrificing his own personal time and sleep to mentor others.
John has worked diligently for Bentley, for women in the entire community of Boston, and for diverse candidates. In his work at Bentley, he provides a bridge between students, professors and the business community of the city that is invaluable. He not only serves the business community of today, but provides support for future leaders, including under represented constituencies. There is simply no one like John: his work is beyond the scope of most normal mentors; he is tireless in his efforts, and completely selfless.
