Managing and Motivating a Virtual Team

What’s this course about?

 

Managing people is the key to success at any job. The best managers are excellent communicators and spend time with their employees to teach them what they need to know to be successful. So how does one embrace this philosophy of excellent management when you are not in person with the people you manage every day?

This two-part (two half days) online workshop will provide managers with the tools to effectively manage up, down and across to achieve greater productivity despite the challenges of working in a remote environment. This course will include a communication styles assessment to determine one’s style and adapt communication to the style of others.  Participants will learn strategies to manage their relationships with their supervisors, achieve successful delegation, give constructive feedback, and manage others in a more productive way despite the limitations of online communication and remote workspaces. The skills learned in this course will also be applicable to when we are all able to gather in person again.

The course topics include but are not limited to these topics:

Managing Across

  • Identifying your communication style and adapting to others
  • Understanding your colleagues work style and habits given their remote environment.
  • Influencing others and how to gain respect
  • Providing constructive feedback and recognition online which is now more important than ever

Managing Up

  • Managing your supervisor and adding more value to your role
  • Determining your supervisor’s work style and how it has adapted to a remote world
  • Identifying what kind of communication your supervisor needs and what they expect and need most from you.

Delegation

  • Identifying the language and tone for successful delegation
  • Understanding the role of accountability and follow up despite not being in person
  • Using delegation as a tool to create individual opportunities for growth.
